A powerful antioxidant called resveratrol is found in the grapes used to produce red wine which helps to prevent cancer, heart problems and premature aging.

5. Fish

Certain types of fish are packed full of nutrients and proteins which have huge anti-ageing benefits.

Fish such as salmon, tuna and trout are rich in omega 3 acids.

They help to lower the risk of strokes, protect your heart and reduce the chances of cognitive decline.

A substance called DHA is also found in omega 3 acids. Many studies suggest that this also improves your vision from de-generating with age.

The benefits of eating fish are endless, so try to eat fish at least twice a week.

6. Dark Chocolate

Great news for those with a sweet tooth, dark chocolate with high cocoa content is full of B vitamins which improves skin density and hydration.

Have a maximum allowance of a square or two a day.

7. Beans

Often over-looked for lack of flavour, beans possess high quantities of fibre, zinc and potassium which collectively reduce cholesterol.

Having high cholesterol can lead to many diseases such as heart attacks and thinning of the arteries.

Plus, the plant-based protein in beans is so high that is contains as much weight for weight protein as a fillet of steak without the high fat.

Low-priced and filling, beans are an essential addition to your weekly food shop.

8. Nuts

Nuts contain high levels of unsaturated fats which are deemed to be ‘good fats’. As a consequence, nuts reduce high blood pressure and high cholesterol by significant amounts.

Brazil nuts are a dream come true in working against ageing as they have a source of selenium which helps to regulate inflammation.

Inflammatory foods contribute to the ageing process and therefore selenium has amazing benefits for healthy skin.

Walnuts are also anti-inflammatory due to the large amount of anti-oxidants found in them.

As nuts are high in fat, only eat a small handful a day.
